At School in the Pines, we offer flexible care options to fit your family’s schedule. Whether you’re looking for full-day, half-day, or a few hours of care, we have the perfect session to support your child’s growth and development in a warm and nurturing environment. Explore our session types below!
Full Time
Our Full-time Program caters to families needing childcare on a weekly basis, including the holidays and breaks observed by Klein ISD (summer, Christmas/Winter break, fall break, spring break, etc.). Full time runs year-round and can be scheduled Monday – Friday, or two, three, or five days a week. We have full-time hours between 6:30 and 6:00, or short-day hours from 8-3. Tuition is due at the start of each week and is considered late by Wednesday of the current week. Weekly tuition is NOT discounted for sickness, vacation, school holidays, inclement weather, or any other closures or reasons for not attending. You may take two weeks’ vacation per year, after attending for three months. Vacation restarts on your enrollment date anniversary each year. Vacation weeks are set up in advance and cannot be used for time off due to sickness.
Preschool and Mother's Day Out
Our Preschool (9-1) and Mother’s Day Out (9-3) is designed for families who can take off during the Klein school breaks and summer months. Preschool/MDO runs during the school year and follows Klein ISD for all school closures and student holidays. Most weeklong holidays (such as fall break, Christmas break, mid-winter break, spring break) we offer “holiday camp” to our preschoolers, for an extra fee. Limited space may be available over the summer as part of our Full-time Program. Preschool tuition is paid MONTHLY, at the start of each month, and is considered late by the 5 th of the month. Half tuition for August due August 19; tuition for December 3/4; and tuition for March 3/4. For all other months, full tuition is due. Discounts are not given for vacation, student holidays, inclement weather days, sickness, or any other reason.

All children participate in a dynamic preschool curriculum from 9:00 – 1:00.
We offer an excellent program for babies. We have a 4-1 baby to caregiver ratio, which is less than the state’s limit, and allows each infant individual attention. Our teachers are actively involved in caring for the children, from rocking them, feeding them, sitting on the floor when the babies are having tummy time and when they’re just learning to sit up and start moving around. We take pictures often, and videos from time to time, to text to the parents during the day. Parents of the infants in our care have expressed their satisfaction with the program; several have come from other child care centers and really value the time and attention they receive here, as well as the fact that the owners are present and available on a daily basis. All the furniture, fixtures, flooring, toys, and equipment is brand new for this school year.
Three year olds are busy learning new things every day. We start with the basics. Learning (and then reviewing) our colors and shapes is important. We find colors and shapes around our classroom, outside, even in our snack! We sing the alphabet song, and start learning about “beginning sounds” of words. We practice counting to 10 and putting items in small groups.
Each preschool day includes circle time when we discuss the day of the week, date, and month, say the Pledge of Allegiance, hear a special story, and find out about the rest of the day’s activities.
We play outside for thirty minutes, where we have a fort, slide, sand (with lots of digging toys, trucks, blocks, and more), swings, and other fun things. We spend time each day hearing songs, singing, dancing, playing instruments, using bean bags and parachutes, and more.
We have an activity time at our tables, when each child works on a project. This might include gluing, cutting, drawing, or painting. It’s important to practice sitting at a table and following directions so we will be ready for pre-kindergarten next year.
We are learning about manners. We remember to say please and thank you, use our inside voices, cover our mouths when we sneeze, and wash our hands before eating and after using the bathroom.
Before our preschool day ends, we have had time for play. We have a homeliving center (with dress up clothes too), a blocks center, an area for puzzles, a farm with lots of pretend animals, a castle with knights, and other fun toys.
Pre-kindergarten fully prepares each child for Kindergarten. Our teachers are very aware of what children should know before beginning elementary school, so our curriculum focuses on those areas. Children learn both upper case and lower case letters, following the traditional manuscript writing style which is used in all Klein Elementary schools. Recognizing lower case letters makes learning to read much easier. Math skills include sorting, counting, patterning, sizes, and more.

It is important to start practicing good habits that will help us succeed in Kindergarten. We are able to sit and listen for ten or fifteen minutes; we remember to wash our hands after using the bathroom; we share our toys; we practice using inside voices; we remember to say please and thank you; we raise our hands to talk.
Before our preschool day ends, we have had time for play. We have a homeliving center (with dress up clothes too), a blocks center, an area for puzzles, a farm with lots of pretend animals, and other fun toys.
We are open from 6:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Between 6:30 and 9:00 a.m., children have an opportunity to explore class room centers, color, draw, and do “free art”, and play with a variety of toys, puzzles, and games. Children here past 1:00 will have a nap or quiet time, play outside, play Bingo and other group games, utilize class room centers, draw and color, use playdough or clay, and participate in other planned activities. Extended care allows children to build on those skills they are learning in their preschool class, but in a less structured environment.
- Before & After School Care
We currently provide before/after school care to Lemm Students.
We have special party days (Holiday & just silly days like “National Spaghetti Day” or “Eat a Chicken Nugget Day.”)
We enjoy making our own seasonal snacks. We always have a Fun Friday event, like Kona Ice Snow Cones, Pizza Party, Popcorn/candy & a movie, playground picnics, and more. All special activities included in weekly tuition.
Children in school age care are grouped by grade level, to allow for careful supervision of each group. We play inside (legos, k’nex, board games, art projects, and dramatic play) and enjoy outside time on Lemm’s big grassy playground.
- Holiday Care
School in the Pines is open on many days when the Klein District doesn’t have classes, including Christmas Vacation, Spring Break, and other in-service days or holidays.
On Klein holidays, we do special art projects, play games, put on plays or puppet shows, build tents, and more.
- Summer Camp
During the summer, we go swimming and participate in exciting field trips. We also have a special theme each summer, which includes cool art projects, cooking, classroom visitors, and more!
